Chapter 8
BY the time Isaac opened Louiseâs bakery door, she was close to tears. Itâs so unfair, she thought bitterly. Isaac was using his strength, his sex appeal, and the attraction between them to drive her crazy. She went out tonight to prove she was here in Bay Shore to make friends and start a business, not to date! But then Isaac stomped in and threw her over his shoulder like a caveman, dragging her out of the bar, undoing all her progress. Every man in that bar knew what Isaacâs intentions were, and could probably guess at the history between them. It wouldnât be long before word spread in town that she was up for a good time.
Her grandmother would be ashamed of her. She wanted to rebuild the bakery and honor Genyâs memory. She wanted to do something without her parentsâ involvement and control. Bay Shore was supposed to be her fresh start, the place where she could find herself completely.
âWeâre home, beautiful, so you can stop trying to claw my eyes out.â Isaac chuckled as if this were all a joke and placed her back on her feet.
As soon as he let her go, she wrapped her hands into fists and began swinging at him wildly. âYou bastard! Why did you do that?â
âDo what?â Isaac avoided her swings, dodging left and right, smiling like he was having the time of his life.
âCarry me out of the bar like some sort of animal!â Louise swung again, and this time when Isaac ducked, she kicked him hard in the shin.
âOuch!â He hobbled on one foot dramatically, rubbing the sore area, his amber eyes light with amusement. âI wouldnât have done it if I knew you were going to be this mean.â
âWhy wouldnât I be mean?â She threw up her hands. âYou were being mean to me! Stomping into the bar, and throwing me over your shoulder like Iâm your property or something.â
âOr something,â he teased, rolling his eyes.
âThis isnât a joke!â Louise gripped on to his shoulders, shaking him, feeling the need to punch again. âDo you know what you did back there?â
âBesides finish the game you started?â
âYou ruined my reputation!â she screamed, pushing him away to take a deep breath. She was not a violent person. This was not how she wanted to get her point across. But Isaacâs carefree attitude, after making her the laughingstock of Bay Shore, made her want to strangle him.
âOh please, rich girl, stop being so dramatic.â Isaac crossed his arms over his chest and grinned. âIâm just playing around. Itâs not that big of a deal.â
Louise swallowed hard to keep back the tears of frustration. Growing up in a household with almost no emotion had screwed her up when it came to crying. Instead of crying when she was sad or depressed like normal people did, she would hold everything in, and then it would come to haunt her when she was mad. It terrified her to show Isaac this weakness, this vulnerability, especially when he thought this was all a big game.
